Clara, Drosselmeyer, Dew-Drop, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and all those other fairy tale entities which comprise Tchaikovsky‘s wondrous and beloved ballet, “The Nutcracker“, are back. Since 1954 (the year I was born), George Balanchine‘s beloved production is performed annually by the New York City Ballet. Members of the company, along with its entire corps of children, rotate, with assembly line precision, playing the various roles which comprise the ballet. Balanchine’s gift to the world of dance and to the spirit of Christmas never fails to please: a feast of sight and sound for the heart and mind.
