Eliot Spitzer, the latest in an ever-increasing list of political outrages, is a case study in hypocrisy. This utterly contemptible leech, having oozed from the machinations of New York City’s bureaucratic duplicity and self-aggrandizement, fooled the voters of this state into allowing him to ultimately ooze into the office of “governor” of New York as well.
An arrogant, vindictive rogue, possessing the conscience of an amoeba, he touted reform while his personal conduct was fraught with corruption. To further his political aspirations, he often cynically accused his opponents of the very misconduct that he was engaged in himself. The clincher and masterpiece of his hypocritical gall is that he proposed an investigation into the Emperor’s Club VIP: the very same prostitution ring that he patronized and was its favorite client! Indeed, Spitzer is a narcisstic fraud that would make Lewis’ “Elmer Gantry” look good…if anything, Gantry had charm whereas Spitzer has the all charm of a rattlesnake.
The old saying “better late than never” is very appropriate here. If voters (not only in this state, but anywhere in the free world) were vigilant, anytime and everytime would be extremely late for these societal contagions…unfortunately, so many of them were allowed to infest government thus far, a sense of hopelessness has arisen towards a disease in its terminal stages.
