I doubt if we’ll ever see the like of an actor such as Charlton Heston again. Personas like his were as epic as the epics they starred in, virtually converting their starring roles into a reflection of their own lives. Whether Heston was playing Moses or Michelangelo or Ben-Hur, history (however fictionally represented) was transformed as he delighted moviegoers with his charisma. Heston’s politics and personal opinions (as was the case with John Wayne) were only enhanced by his screen image. He was, in short, a great actor and a great man. Rest in Peace, Chuck.

Heston wasn’t always good, but when he was good he was unforgettable; he required the right role and the right director, which he had in his greatest pictures.
