Even though her fans would find this tantamount to heresy, I never liked Madonna…not as a performer, not as a person. While I recognized her talent and acknowledged her versatility (I was one of the few who thought she was great as Evita), her massive catalogue of gaudy stunts and vulgar exhibitions were a wonder to behold. In short, I found her to be annoying.
Then again, whereas time heals all wounds, time also nurtures acceptance. At 49, Madonna is only five years younger than me. Few performers who reached her level of sensational extravangance, have remained as relevantly and physically intact. For nearly thirty years, her indomitable persona and savvy have made her a legend in her own time; something of a habit in the shaky world of popular music and tradition. She was always there, blaring colorfully in the wings, as we both grew distantly and uniquely older. I have to respect a fellow traveler of mine who endured so well and accomplished so much as a product of the Baby Boom Generation.
She’s pictured above performing at the Roseland Ballroom, here in New York City, where she performed a half-hour set for MTV. A rare departure from her spectacular venues, the Roseland’s atmosphere is very small and intimate. Fans waited nearly two days for tickets.

^ I’ll take that one as a spam comment. Honestly, Michael, show me how to become a member!!
Anyways, Madonna is famous, and I’m betting justifiably so since she’s lasted so long without losing her popularity, but not being very experienced in pop culture I’m not especially fond of her music either.

Hi, Andave. The comment you refer to links to a legitimate site; hence, I published it here.
Madonna’s talent is beyond question and she did indeed work hard to get where she is, as opposed to this current stream of sexy but inept wannabes.
I’ll get in touch with you soon regarding membership in this EggCream mess. Thanks for your interest, Mary Sue.

You are so right about her performance in “Evita”. She was awesome. I so agree - I have new respect for the musicians that last.
