Every time I imagine I’ve seen all there is to see in New York, I soon learn that there’s so much more to see that invariably surprises me.
| Manhattan’s only drive-in cinema and the world’s smallest - it only has room for one car - DRV-IN involves no “driving in” at all. Artists Ben and Hall Smyth’s version of the classic Americana outdoor theatres of the 1950s and 60s is actually a performance space that every few months re-invents itself – a comment on the evolving and rapidly changing neighbourhood of its Lower Eastside location. A few months ago, it was a table-tennis parlour called Pong, before that a barn store selling salvaged wood. Right now, the 350 sq ft storefront consists of a 1965 blue four-door Ford Falcon convertible – open the doors a smidgen and you’ll hit the sidewalls - a movie screen and painted starry skies, artificial grass and a potted tree. Oh, and a concession stand. There’s space for six people in the Falcon and DRV-IN’s film schedule cherry-picks the best movies of the past 40 years. Speaking of which, that drive-in tradition of necking in the backseat is welcomed. |

You are tempting people to visit New York!

Then again, when I observe the many less attractive and unsightly parts of NYC, I’m amazed that anyone comes to visit at all…let alone, actually enjoy their visit here. Thanks, Scratch Bags.

But isn’t it the same with every country? A few days back USA and UK tagged India as Garbage Country. I’d agree that India has garbage problem but does that stop people from believing that it has a blend of diversity and rich culture, which is not to be find anywhere else in the world:) So, I think I’d live with the better and a pleasant view !

Scratch Bags~ I’m often condemnatory yet sardonic in my views towards this city: my love-hate relationship with its daily ups and downs is given expression, throughout this blog, based on my own various moods; and my moods DO vary.
In any event, the “Garbage Country” tag (whoever “tagged” it so) regarding India was a terribly ill-considered, arrogant and grossly stupid remark. Of course India is one of the most cultured and beautiful countries in the world, and my wife Steffie (who is British) and I regret that idiotic tag.
