“As if advertising wasn’t trashy enough, a city councilman now wants to sell ad space on city garbage cans, saying that the plan could reap $2.5 million.” (The Brooklyn Paper)
And all this time I had only THOUGHT it was garbage, these ads to the left of me/ right of me, sound and fury signifying nothing.

Pretty soon there won’t be anymore space left for anything! They put commercials on rented videos now. Do they really think anyone will a)watch them, and/or b)buy their product?
Thanks for the “head up”!

I wonder whether people decide upon buying a product just because they saw an ad written on garbage can…least of all. I think it’s a way of creating a brand recall.

Suzann~As with the generation of fools, the generation of greed (probably a mere extension of fools) is as endless as the advertising space available to them. It’s our capacity, as they perceive it, to swallow their sales pitches that either impels or ultimately dispels their intrusive practices.
Thanks, Suzann, for the visit.
Scratch Bags~In the old days, when most things made sense (or, at least, appeared so), to advertise on a trash container would have been equivalent to serving a meal on a dirty table. (“Do Not Litter” was the only writing to be found on such things.) In our new and improved age(?), such constraints no longer apply.
(And Thank You, Scratch, for the vote)

There are many places I would love to be advertised, and a place where they throw trash is not one of them. Seems kind of silly to have things advertised there except for maybe a waste removal or recycling company ad.

You’re so right, Kikolani. But who are we to argue with “genius” and with profit-seeking, however ridiculous?…right? Thanks for the feedback.
