PROSPECT PARK’S PROSPECTIVE

prospectparkProspect Park, the 526 acres bounded by Flatbush, Ocean and Parkside avenues, Prospect Park South and Prospect Park West, was considered by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux a better example of their work than their Central Park in Manhattan.

Commissioned to begin design work in 1866 by the state legislature, the team worked continually from July 1, 1866 and the park first opened to visitors on October 19, 1867, although it was not complete. Three areas define the landscape scheme of {read more…} Brooklyn Daily Eagle
